ELiS AX - implementation in a food retail facility

The investor of this retail facility had a number of requirements and objectives to meet. The key was to find a solution that would not only reduce energy consumption costs, but also ensure comfort for both customers and employees. To achieve this, it was necessary to make effective use of the heat recovered from, among other things, refrigerated display cases, in the supermarkets. It was also important that the proposed solution allow for integration of the air curtains with BMS (building management system).

FLOWAIR solution

The solution provided is based on ELiS AX air curtains designed to work with very low temperature sources, for instance heat recovery systems. The device, which is 200 cm long and has a range of 3.6 m, was installed above the entrance door to the building, where it provides effective protection in the doorway and prevents heat and cool losses. The air curtain not only provides a feeling of thermal comfort to people passing through the door, but also maintains the set temperature in the vestibule without the need of installing additional fan heaters.

The system uses plate heat exchangers that allow the water (heating medium) in the heating circuit to be heated to approximately 36°C. Thanks to the integration of the air curtain with the BMS system, it is possible to continuously monitor key parameters such as supply air temperature, ambient temperature, and water temperature returning from the heat exchanger, as shown in the chart below.

Key elements

ELiS AX air curtain – creates an air barrier in the door opening. This significantly reduces losses resulting from the inflow of cold air from outside in winter and the escape of warm air from air-conditioned rooms in the summer. The intelligent, smart automation allow the device to automatically adjust its operation to the ever changing weather conditions minimizing energy consumption.

T-box controller – allows the end user to monitor and adjust the operating parameters of devices, set weekly schedules, and respond quickly in emergency situations.

What exactly were the benefits of using the selected devices?

  • Thermal comfort – Thanks to OPTIflow technology, the ELiS AX curtain maximizes the use of thermal energy and creates a precisely directed air barrier. The device ensures comfort by maintaining a constant temperature and protecting against factors such as dust and pollution.
  • Real savings – The ELiS AX curtain in this example is powered by process excess heat (free heat), which has resulted in real monthly savings. In addition, the air curtain reduces the heat and cool losses, and the laminar air flow guarantees great air barrier. As a result, the user receives a highly efficient, environmentally friendly, and economical solution.
  • Cooperation with heat pumps - The use of powerful three- or four-row water heat exchanger in the ELiS AX air curtains guarantees great heating parameters even when supplying the air curtain with very low-temperature heating medium. Thanks to this, the devices are in line with the zero-emission building policy.
  • Intelligent automation and integrated device operation – Advanced smart automation allows you to adjust device operation to current weather conditions and facility requirements. The ELiS AX curtain is controlled by the T-box Zone controller, which enables device integration within the FLOWAIR SYSTEM and easy connection to the BMS system.
